25 Week Check-up

Yesterday I went in for my 25 week check-up. I have gained 8 lbs. so far which my doctor was very pleased with and he said I could gain up to a pound a week from now on. Seth's heart rate was 138 bpm which they said was good. My blood pressure was very good. This was the first time that my stomach was measured and apparently I am measuring at about 26 weeks, about one week ahead. This could mean that Seth is a big baby, I could have gestational diabetes, I could be one week farther along, or he is just measuring big right now. They will do a 3-D ultrasound at my next visit in four weeks to check his size. If he gets too big they might have to induce earlier than the expected due date. I got a good report on just about everything except for my glucose test which I wouldn't know the results of for a while. I was feeling good, feeling fine yesterday about my progress so far, but things changed this morning. I got a call from the nurse and she said that I failed my routine glucose tolerance test. This means I will have to go in next week for the three hour version of the test to determine if I have gestational diabetes. I was bummed for about five minutes and shed a few quick tears because after all I FAILED a test, but then decided I might as well be proactive about it. I did some research about gestational diabetes and realized it's really not something you can prevent but you can help through diet and exercise. So I might as well try to be a little more conscious about my sugar/carbohydrate intake until I know for sure if I have gestational diabetes. My eating healthier and being sugar conscious is not going to hurt anything if I don't have gestational diabetes. I plan to go in for the three hour test during the first part of next week so hopefully I will know by the middle of next week about the gd for sure. We'll see what happens after that.
