Catching Up

I haven't been in the writing mood too much lately, but I feel as if I am getting out of the slump. It comes and goes with me. I have had lots of things that have been going on such as, I have been busy working in the office, which is close to being exactly how I want it, but there are still no pictures yet.
Luckily, I have been taking pictures of some other things that have been going on lately though. For example:

About a week and a half ago, when I was on Spring Break, I woke up with the strangest craving. When I was a child, I loved eating Chef Boyardee's ABC's & 123's soup and peanut butter and banana sandwiches. It sounds like a weird combination, but I absolutely loved it, especially accompanied by a glass of cold milk. Well, I just had to have that meal again and ended up going to the store that day to recreate it. I have to say, it was delicious!

Another example:

We have always had plenty of wildlife at our house even though we live in the middle of the city. We have rabbits, possums, a snake once, and plenty and plenty of birds of all kinds. Two years ago a robin decided she would make a nest on top of one of the columns on our front porch. We didn't mind a bit and were quite pleased to watch the baby birds develop enough to fly away and live their own little lives. The next year, the same robin, I think, came back to make her nest and we were happy to see her return. The only problem is that birds are messy and they tend to leave droppings on the porch and on the porch swing if they have a nest there. We let the robin tend to her eggs, then birds, and were thankful when their family ventured on somewhere else. A couple months later though, we noticed another robin's nest in the same spot. Did we have to endure the whole process two times a year now? We decided the nest thing was going to have to stop. We knew we were safe for the winter, but when we saw the first signs of Spring, we decided we would place nails up on the top of the columns to prevent the birds from nesting. The birds were able to remove one of the three long nails and started making a nest. Bryan took the few strands of grass off and placed a piece of paper there so they couldn't keep building their nest. Now, keep in mind that there are two columns and we didn't put a piece of paper in amongst the nails on the other column, because it was not the corner that was preferred by the bird. We left to go somewhere for just a few hours and when we returned this is what we saw in the other corner:

The robin had built her nest around and on top of the nails on the other column. It was absolutely crazy how fast she made it. We decided that because she was so persistent we wouldn't remove it, but next year I think once they have moved on this time we are putting bricks or something up there. :)

Speaking of the porch, I planted red petunias in the front planter this past week and I was also able to get my herb garden and the back deck looking nice for the upcoming months.

I actually have herbs that are growing from seeds that I planted!!!

I also tried planting potatoes, shallots, and garlic in two trash cans that we had that we weren't using. We'll see how they do throughout the Spring and Summer.

Today, I was able to meet Bret Witter, the coauthor of Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. The book is very cute. Some people think that it is not well-written, but the story of Dewey is amazing.
(I hate blurry pictures but sometimes it happens especially when you aren't the one behind the camera.)

So other than having a good 17 weeks checkup yesterday, which included the baby's heartrate at 147 beats per minute, I think that gets me caught up from my lack of blogging lately.
Oh, one more thing, for all of you interested, we find out if we are having a boy or a girl on May 11th!!!

16 Weeks

The past few weeks have flown by and it just doesn't seem like I can be 16 weeks pregnant today. I am showing more and more each day, but I have absolutely hated taking the profile shots so I won't be sharing those any time soon. I have just about had a breakdown the two times I let Bryan take them. Since I don't have a cute baby belly yet I figure there is no since in even posting them.
In other baby news, I felt a few flutters last week for the first time. I haven't felt anything in the past few days and I haven't really felt a kick, only little flutters. It feels as if there is a goldfish taking a quick swim inside of you. It only lasts for a second and definitely feels strange. I can't wait for those little flutters to happen more often.

Since I have been on Spring Break this week, I decided I would rearrange the office to make it into a office/guest room so that our current guest room can be the baby's room. I have a had a total mess in the office for the past few days and it is driving me nuts. I just can't seem to make any progress. I think it is going to be great once it's done, but I am just unsure of when that is going be. I absolutely love to decorate and shop for the house (which I have done in a very thrifty way lately), but I wish my ideas would just magically turn into the finished product. Luckily, Bryan is off for Good Friday tomorrow and maybe we can get a lot accomplished. :)

New Additions

Last week I had two days off of work thanks to a state-wide Beta Convention. I enjoyed my time off by exploring many consignment stores and for the most part just window shopping. In amongst the shopping, I was able to find a new glider rocker and ottoman at Wal-mart which made our first addition to the nursery. It is ultra comfy and I absolutely love gliding in it while I am reading. Maybe in the coming weeks we can make a crib another addition. :)

I was also able to find a table at the flea market that could go under our circle mirror in the living room. The mirror had just been sitting on the floor for the past couple of months and so it is really nice for it to actually be useful. I was given quite a lecture from Bryan about not haggling over the price of it though. I am not a haggler and I would not have paid for the table if I did not think it was a reasonable price. I think it is cute, it was the right color, and it has character (One thing I mean by character is the fact that it does have a slightly warped board on the top right, but I should be able to hide that at least some). I still need to add some accessories on top, but here is a quick view of the second addition that was made to our home.

The last addition that I made over the weekend was actually a piece of art that was Bryan's idea. We had a poster in our office and we decided to make a custom mat and frame of several of our favorite photos from over the past few years and some from Bryan's daily photo blog. I think it turned out great and we have the flexibility to change out the photos whenever we like.

Fatigue

For the past week I have been so tired. Today has been the worst. I just feel exhausted. I sure hope there is a lot going on inside of me to cause all of this. It doesn't help that I have been extremely busy with parent-teacher conferences, Western Kentucky Council stuff, and teaching at the Housing Authority. Squeeze in a little bit of enjoyment at the park whenever possible and the result is fatigue. I only have a three day work week this week due to the state-wide Beta Convention so I think I will make it. In amongst all of this fatigue, I have the urge to work on house projects like fixing up the bathroom, getting the rest of the doors painted, and rearranging furniture to make room for the nursery in the coming months. I think all of those ideas are wonderful, but I am not quite sure if that is what I need to be doing right now. I am not sure that I will tackle much of anything at the end of this week, but a simplified version does sound quite nice for my Spring Break which is just two weeks away!!!

160 Beats per Minute

Baby Tillery has increased its heart rate to 160 beats per minute. We are right on schedule, so I'm told. Here it is:

Oh, we also found out that our baby has to have negative blood which is good news because both Bryan and I have negative blood types. Everything else is looking great. I am 12 weeks now and my next appointment is at 17 weeks.
In other maternity news, I started sporting maternity attire this past week. I can still fit into my regular jeans but all my other pants were a bit snug. The maternity clothes are so comfy and I am not sure why everyone doesn't wear them all the time. I may never go back to regular clothes again. :)

Spring Is Almost Here

Photo Taken by Bryan Tillery

The past few days have felt so wonderful! The weather is just beautiful and it is this time of year that I appreciate the warm sunshine and new life all around me even more. I love driving past all the daffodils because I know they are the first of many gorgeous flowers that will bloom in the next few weeks. The tulips are peeking through and will be all around and they are especially my favorite. The time change has also renewed my energy in the evenings. For the past few weeks all I wanted to do was lie on the couch when I got home from teaching. Last night, though, because there was still daylight until around seven, I felt more energy. Bryan and I soaked up the warm weather on the front porch swing for a few minutes and then decided to take the dogs on a walk. Although it was not as long as we would have liked to ave walked (thanks to a spur of the moment calling from my bladder) it was still very nice. The singing of the birds, the warm rays of the sun, and the fresh smell of flowers blossoming is all around, and I am glad that Spring is almost here.

A Fine Line

There is a fine line between just looking fat and looking cute and bubbly from that baby bump. Well I am at the point where my pants are just about too tight around the waist but I am not too sure about buying from the maternity section. I feel fat! I know this is part of the journey, but it is hard to overcome that expanding waistline right now. I think in a few weeks when the baby bump is more noticeable it will not be a problem but for right now I just look like I have gained ten pounds in the past two weeks. In reality it is only two but it sure looks like a lot more. I am looking forward to my mom and dad visiting this weekend and hopefully with a little help I might be able to find some nice transition clothes to cross over that fine line of looking fat to looking like a baby is on board.
