At the beginning of August, as my friend Kelly and I were out hitting all the consignment/antique stores, we stumbled across an old jelly cabinet. After much debate over the restoration of this piece of furniture and a little bartering, I bought it. Kelly and Nathan were a big help getting it home and helping me sand some of it. Bryan was totally against the idea of me purchasing it in the first place so I didn't want him to see it until it was done. Well, the project turned into a much longer process than I expected and so he inevitably had to see it before it was completed.
There was something about this cabinet that I loved and I knew it had so much potential. So for the past month I have been working on it on the front porch. Slowly stripping the paint with non-toxic orange stripper and painting it with low fumes paint. Finally, last night I put the hinges on and settled it into its new home in our hallway right outside of our kitchen. I didn't intend to put jelly jars in it like its name implies, but I did want some extra storage for some of our kitchen items that I don't use all the time. After all I have to make room for bottles and sippy cups in our cabinets.
I am very pleased with the final product and I am extremely thankful that it's done. Bryan is still not a big fan of it, but with all the hard work put into it, it's here to stay for a very long time. Here are some pictures of it. The top two are before pics taken by Nathan Morgan. The last three are the finished product (taken by me as I'm sure you can tell).
