We have had a lot of transitioning happening in our neighborhood lately. A few months back we got new neighbors to the left of us. Shortly after that the house to the right of us went up for sale. Then just a few short weeks ago the house across the street went up for sale and sold within a couple of days. This past weekend, both the owners of the house to the right of us and the house across the street packed up their things and moved. We knew the house across the street had a contract on it, but thought the house to the right was still on the market. A couple of nights ago, as I was working on the cabinet on the front porch I saw an unfamiliar car pull into the house next door. A young couple with a big white dog walked up to their new house and unlocked it. Last night, we noticed them working, but they still had not moved their belongings in. I immediately new I had to make a trip to the store for some cookies.
Bryan and I have always had good intentions to bake some cookies and go and meet any new neighbors but one thing or another always came up and then it seemed too much time would pass. Well, we weren't letting this opportunity pass us by this time. We, and I mostly mean Bryan, baked cookies last night in the midst of my crazy productivity mode. I was busy working on a million other things. After the cookies cooled, I packed them in a clear treat bag and tied a welcoming note and pretty yellow ribbon on it. Today we carried our bag of cookies and warm smiles next door and met our neighbors. Maybe our relationship with Mike and Amy can flourish, but either way it felt good to finally welcome new neighbors to the neighborhood.
I think we might just get to do the same thing again soon with the neighbors that will probably be moving in soon across the street and that makes me very happy. :)
