Well, I am sorry to say that I have still not finished Harry Potter, but I have managed to read almost the entire time since my last posting. I have been reading journal articles and research books non-stop (except for on Tuesday) for an assignment that was due today. Oh, and on Monday I had to take a break to visit my friend Laura in Butler County. She was getting rid of 16 boxes of children's books and so I got to pick out whatever I wanted for my classroom. I took 800 of them! Yes, I know that sounds crazy, but research shows that a good classroom library needs more than 500 books and exceptional classroom libraries have a whole lot more than 500, so I am well on my way to meeting the exceptional classroom library standards. Picking out the books was easy, sorting and leveling them will be the hard part and that is what I will be working on after finishing Harry Potter.
Tuesday was my last day for the Summer Reading Program and although I will still see the kids at school, I was kind of sad because it has been a lot of fun. The kids seemed to really improve in their reading too which was the whole point. Since it was our last day, we went to the city pool to swim after reading at the library and eating at Dairy Queen. The highlight of the day was that I taught one little girl how to swim. By the end of the afternoon she was swimming all over the shallow end and having a blast.

You've been so busy this summer - it makes me feel a little bad that I've been laying by the pool. Oh well, some of us have the hard life, huh? We went to a new park this past weekend and played disc golf. We were telling our friends all about Bryan and his "dragging his shoe" habit when he throws. We missed you guys when we were walking the course! And Sophie too!
